My life as an elite athlete.

So this month I want to tell you what my day of being an athlete consists of. Each day isn’t always the same but pretty similar. Monday On a Monday morning I set my alarm for 4.15am, so very, very early! As it is so early in the morning I don’t always have breakfast as I don’t always feel like it. If I do eat then I will have 2 weet-bix with milk and a sprinkle of sugar. I then drive 20mins to get out to Nunawading swimming pool, This is a suburb outside of Melbourne. We get in the water at 5am and finish at 7am. I have a drinks bottle...

Racing and sight seeing in Sydney!

This month started off with celebrating my 24th birthday which was on the 1st. I got a new bike from my boyfriend which is awesome, I am now able to bike all over Melbourne! I also got treated to a lovely birthday lunch with friends. I travelled to Sydney on the April 6th compete at the Australian world trials. The trials were held at the 2000 Olympic games pool. I just went to race the 50m BR as I wasn’t allowed to swim the 100m. As I am English I am not allowed to swim the events that they select for worlds. Unfortunately I wasn’t very well...

World Championship Trials and Family Time

I returned to the UK at the end of Feb. I had that long 24-hour trip back to the UK, on my own which was quite scary! Not a massive fan of flying, so I was a bit worried about going all that way on my own. When I landed in the UK I had my brother and my dad waiting to pick me up! I spent the evening with my family catching up as I hadn’t seen them since the beginning of December. My mum cooked me a Sunday dinner which was awesome, I love my mums cooking, it’s the best! The next day I travelled up to Loughborough to start my preparation for...

The beggining of 2011

Firstly Happy New Year to everybody! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. Can’t believe it is the 1st of February today, January has flown by! We have had a few busy weeks though since Christmas and New Year. I have to admit that it didn’t feel like Christmas over here in Australia but I still had a great time. We spent Christmas with the Gandy family, which was really nice. We went for a walk on St Kilda beach with Kingston the dog on Christmas morning and in the afternoon we had a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, then...

The Big Move Down Under!

So I have finally made it to Australia. I am now based in Melbourne where I will be training all the way through to the London 2012 Olympic Games. I have been here just over a week now. After a long 24 hours of travelling we finally made it to the other side of the world! When we landed it was about 25degrees outside, which I think was about 30degrees warmer than back home. Its nice not having to wrap up warm, I wont be missing the snow back home that is for sure! We are staying with another swimmer and her family. Ellen Gandy. She is also a...

My time off and the beginning of the new swim season

I have now been back in training for a couple of weeks after a nice long and relaxing break. I didn't go on holiday this year as I am waiting to go out to Australia soon. I spent alot of my break catching up with family which was really nice. The rest of it I spent mostly on the sofa watching tele!!! I visited two primary schools in my break, one in Cambridgeshire and one in Lincolnshire. I took along my medals and wore my tracksuit. The children asked me some great questions and I hope i inspired them with my answers! I really enjoyed those...

My Commonwealth Games Experience in Delhi, 2010

So after a really good holding camp in Doha with the British team we arrived in Delhi as team England. The village at first glimpse looks amazing! Its night time and its all lit up. We take our first trip to the dining hall before making our way to the apartment. Everyone is pretty tired and looking forward to getting to bed. The vibe in the dining room reminds me of my last commonwealth games and Olympics, there is a real buzz from all the athletes from different sports and countries. The apartments are massive. 4 bedrooms with en-suites,...

British Swimming Commonwealth Games Holding Camp, Doha, Qatar

On Tuesday 21st of September we left Loughborough for our British Swimming Holding Camp in Doha, Qatar. This is the first time that the whole English team has met up and I am excited to see the rest of my team mates and catch up with them. The flight to Doha was about 8 hours, so after a long day I was relieved to arrive at the hotel and was even more happy the see that it was amazing 5 Star luxury. My room mate for the camp and for the Games is Stephanie Proud, we are great friends and as she now lives and trains in Florida it gives us a...
